Vallhyège

Vallhyège Project

The Vallhyège Project is an ambitious initiative led by a consortium of Belgian stakeholders aiming to create a true Hydrogen Valley in the Liège region.

It is based on the construction of a 15 MW electrolysis unit to produce green hydrogen, intended for transport, mobility, and specific industrial niche applications.
Compression and distribution infrastructures will complement the system to serve the entire hydrogen value chain.

Powered by renewable energy sources, Vallhyège will be sustainably integrated into both current and future energy networks, contributing directly to the energy transition and the decarbonization of key sectors of the Walloon economy, such as logistics and industry.

Project Objectives

  • Decarbonization: significantly reduce CO₂ emissions by replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen.
  • Economic Development: structure a new industrial sector around hydrogen, fostering job creation and innovation.
  • Strategic Positioning: strengthen Wallonia’s role within the European Hydrogen Valley network.

Key Differentiators

  • First Hydrogen Valley in Wallonia, covering the entire value chain — from production to end use — and open to neighboring ecosystems.
  • Strategic Location in Liège, a unique European logistics hub connecting air, road, river, and rail transport.
  • Environmental and Innovative Impact: massive emission reduction for sectors that are difficult to electrify (inland navigation, heavy mobility).
  • Strong Consortium: supported by leading hydrogen industry partners.
  • Sustainable Economic Impact: support logistics and industry in their energy transition to secure their long-term future.
