LUSTA 5G is a project selected as part of the “5G Pilot Projects” call launched by the Federal Public Service Economy (FPS Economy) to encourage the development of new connectivity initiatives.
The project aims to enhance Novandi’s logistics chain through remote operation of handling equipment, embracing a SmartPort approach that remains rare in inland waterway terminals.
In practice, during the loading and unloading of goods, a gantry crane will be remotely operated from a control tower.
At the same time, an automated fifth wheel (tug vehicle) will transport containers to storage areas — also remotely controlled through a dedicated Human-Machine Interface (HMI).
In the long term, multiple cranes and tractors will be able to be supervised simultaneously from a single external control tower located outside the logistics site.
